Nami jewellerly collection is inspired by the Japanese book, Hamonshū: Book of Wave and Ripple Designs by Mori Yūzan.
In English, Hamonshū can be translated as either Ripple Collection or Wave Collection. This single enhanced volume contains the original three volume woodblock printed books from 1903. Wave motifs were used on a variety of art works including ceramics and metal work such as sword furniture and in particular Tsuba (sword-guards). It is hoped students of Japanese artwork can find the visual inspiration for the many pieces that have incorporated the wave motif in its many and varied forms.
Collection it's an attempt to transfer motifs from the book's woodcuts to silver jewellery. Some of them wrap around the fingers, others become decorative clasps, or even wavy earrings. The names of the jewellery pieces come from the Japanese words for waves, which also have symbolic meaning.
These earrings have an irregular, organic, wavy shape. Aranami is a wild, untamed wave, popular in medieval poetry.
